Brian Sullivan was born to be a brewmaster. With more than 20 years of both home - and professional-brewing experience, culinary and business degrees, plus a microbiology background, Sullivan understands the essential connection of art and science in creating flavorful, balanced beers. Growing up in Ohio and Illinois, Sullivan always had a passion for creativity and science. At the early age of 16, he taught himself how to home brew. He attended the University of Iowa, earning a business degree in entrepreneurship and management. After graduating, Sullivan quickly recognized he wanted to take a creative career path and took his love for cooking to Boulder, Colorado, where he graduated from Escoffier Culinary School. He then moved to California to continue his culinary and brewing expertise as a chef for Pyramid Breweries in Berkeley, CA, before moving to Chicago where he studied microbiology and chemistry at Chicago City College. Sullivan put all of his studies and years of brewing to work when he became the head brewer at 3 Sheep’s Brewing in Sheboygan, WI. 3 Sheeps was one of the fastest growing breweries in the country during Sullivan’s tenure. He oversaw the facility’s rapid expansion and helped grow the brand throughout Wisconsin and into a new market in Illinois. After gaining invaluable industry experience across six different states, Sullivan was ready for the next step in his career – Steady Hand Beer Co. In 2015, he planted roots in Roswell, Ga., where he teamed up with his brother, Kevin, to launch the brewery. As founder and brewmaster, Sullivan creates distinct, drinkable beers inspired by his experiences in other regions along with culinary influences from Georgia and the southeast. Sullivan lives with his wife, Anna, and dog, Barley, in Roswell. When he’s not developing a new brew, he enjoys cooking, foraging mushrooms, kayaking, and traveling. Sullivan has received national recognition for 3 Sheeps Brewing’s American IPA at the Great International Beer Fest and medals in both coffee beer and specialty beer categories at the U.S. Open Beer Championship. He has also received homebrew competition awards from Hop Barley and the Alers (Boulder, CO) and Oaktoberfest (Oakland, CA). Sullivan has been featured in publications such as the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and Beer Advocate.
