BIO

I’m Numra, head chef and owner of Empress Market. I seek creative ways to explore my Pakistani roots through the food I cook. My South London life and global travels inspire me along the way. My food is my way to connect with where I’ve come from and share my story.

I used to work as a documentary filmmaker so have always enjoyed a good story! I realised my heart belongs in food. In 2014 I trawled the Karachi street stalls to learn how to cook my dad’s favourite snack, Bun Kabab. I launched a street stall trading these ‘anday wala’ Pakistani style burgers at London’s markets.

I’ve grown Bun Kabab from a cottage home business to Empress Market, a multisite hospitality brand. I cater events, host supperclubs, restaurant residencies and pop-ups with my all girl female crew.

I am currently hosting If These Meals Could Talk on Tastemade where I welcome some of my favourite food writers and chefs into my kitchen to cook the dishes that have influenced their lives. Hello my name is Numra and I'm Head Chef and owner of Empress Market is a hospitality brand based in London.
