Vegan Summer Italian Cheese Dinner on the Patio for 2!
After a bit of waffling, the City of Chicago decided they would in fact close up Broadway once again this week, which allows us to host a nice outdoor dinner right on the lovely tree-lined Briar Street in front of the cafe! We want to focus on bright summer flavors, but also incorporate a bit of our vegan cheesemaking. In the event that weather cancels this dinner, we will give it to you as a pickup/delivery and add on 4 of our vegan croissants to help ease the disappointment. We look forward to feeding you, and are excited for another idyllic week of al fresco dining!
Vegan Cheese Plate with Nut and Seed Bread
We started aging tofu in miso almost a month ago to make tofu misozuke, which gives it a very complex aged cheese taste with the texture of pate! Sounds crazy, but here me out, this is magic. Even non-vegans who eat it call it the 'vegan foie gras.' We'll serve you a preparation of tofu misozuke with: 1) Truffled Cashew Brie 2) Preserved Lemon Ricotta 3) Wine-aged Almond Feta ... and give you some of our toasted Nut and Seed Bread and fruits to accompany! This will be decadent.
Arancini di Riso
We fill the arancinis with our housemade mozzarella, fry it in bread crumbs, serve it over a rich tomato sauce, and top it with a generous grating of our almond parmesan.
Antipasti Salad with Fresh Romaine
We'll take many of the classic Italian antipasti ingredients, and present them in the form of a nice salad. Marinated cashew mozzarella, kalamata olives, pepperoncini, and smoked onion slices will adorn crisp romaine leaves, dressed with a garlic, red wine vinegar, and oregano dressing.
Eggplant Rollatini with Lions Mane Mushrooms
We've been getting fantastic lions mane mushrooms from Chicagos very own FourStar Mushroom, and will be roasting them for a filling for some nice eggplant rollatinis (think of them as Italian enchiladas). They'll also be filled with almond chevre and fresh basil, and served with a light and flavorful tomato sauce
Dark Matter Tiramisu
We'll be using Dark Matter espresso pulled from our Rancilio machine to make you a delicious vegan tiramisu.
