Fancy Plants has catered a clown party once (seriously), a resort in Big Sur, Miyoko's birthday, even a Burning Man camp in the desert, but we've shockingly never actually thrown our own Halloween dinner. We almost catered on the moon once (no we didn't). We don't want to serve you witch brains or jello eyes, oh no. But we will take you back in time and cook a lot of classic Americana dishes from an earlier era for a 1920's style Halloween Dinner. Feel free to dress in suits or as flappers as both cats and canaries are welcome to this call house, an Art Deco world with classic cocktails, crooners, and a jet setting dinner menu prepared by our chefs. Happy Halloween, and we'll see you at the party.

Menu detail

Rumaki
Small Plate
Water chestnuts, wrapped in smoked eggplant bacon, with a brown sugar, soy, ginger glaze. Rumaki is a mock-Polynesian hors d'oeurve that appeared around this era, and this dish is still oddly popular in certain places in Wisconsin.
Seared Trumpet Mushroom Scallops with Cocktail Sauce
Small Plate
We'll marinate king trumpet mushrooms, slice them into scallops, pan sear them, and serve them with some zesty cocktail sauce. Shrimp cocktail is a thing in supper clubs, but the scallop cocktail was even fancier.
Artichoke Dip Egg Rolls, Pepper Jam
Small Plate
Artichoke dip never really faded in popularity, but it is also super retro. We'll sear our artichokes in a wok and use a cultured cashew cream cheese as the base, then serve it piping hot in fried egg roll wrappers. Did you know that Chinese food appetizers were really popular in the 1920s?
Loaded Twice-Baked Potato
Small Plate
We'll fill the baked potato with melted cashew cheese, crispy seitan bacon bits, broccoli crowns, and a whipped cashew sour cream
Tempeh and Root Vegetable Roulade
Entree
Baked in a flaky dough, served with beet merlot sauce with seared broccoli
Grasshopper Pie with Cookie Crust
Dessert
The 'grasshopper' is a classic after dinner drink made with Creme de Menthe. The 'Grasshopper Pie' is a Midwestern supper club staple, and was always one of my favorite desserts. We'll be making it with minty green aquafaba whip.
