Chef Byrd Avellan (The Popcycle, Southern Intentions) will capture the best of our local, seasonal ingredients in a meal that celebrates the beautiful August full moon. Some cultures refer to this moon as the Thunder Moon; others know it as the Sturgeon Moon or Green Corn Moon. From these traditions and others, we will cull ingredients to stimulate the palate and inspire a moon mood. Fun complimentary beverage pairings and insight from interesting local moon experts will accompany each course!

Biscuits and Squash Blossom Honey Butter
Small Plate
Southern-style buttermilk chilve biscuits accompanied by cultured squash blossom honey butter and bacon butter. About the chef: Byrd Avellan hails from Louisiana, where she fell in love with food extremely early in life. She effortlessly combines her diverse experience in both professional and private kitchens and food projects with certification as an Ayurvedic Health Counselor & Diet and Lifestyle Coach from the Mount Madonna Institute. Byrd firmly believes that food is medicine, especially when prepared with love and intention.

Melon popsicle, toasted almond gelato, mint meringue and candied violet moon dust Pairing: Sequoia nigori sake Moon discussion lead by guest astronomer, Kevin McLin, who earned graduate degrees in in astronomy and astrophysics at Seattle and Boulder, Colorado. His research included supernovae and the gaseous environments surrounding galaxies! After receiving his doctorate, he managed a NASA-funded observatory at Sonoma State University. He now teaches and researches at San Francisco State.
