She will spill the beans on all she knows about this maize preparation, the daily bread in Colombia and Venezuela. We will kick-off the evening with the traditional maize-based Arepas, as well as delicious beet and carrot variations. For the at-home-hands-on experience you'll need: water, salt, oil, pre-cooked corn flour (masa arepa, not to be confused with masa flour for tortillas or cornmeal). At least one of these ingredients: carrots, beets, spinach, turmeric. Then prepare to stuff the arepas with the filling of your choice to wrap up this rainbow arepa experience. This cooking experience is vegan friendly and naturally gluten-free.

The arepa is one of many important culinary legacies from the natives of the lands we know today as Colombia and Venezuela. A daily bread is eaten for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and can be served as a side or entree. Arepas can be topped or filled with stews, cheeses, salted butter… We will also take a turn to make colorful versions with natural dyes. I will also share other techniques to make your own showstopper arepas. Required ingredient: masa arepa (pre-cooked corn meal).
