Breakfast and lunch in the Middle East are special times of day. People gather together and enjoy bountiful spreads of fresh vegetables, homemade bread, spicy egg dishes and fresh cheese. The flavors range from simple, bright and fresh to spicy and exotic. Using the beautiful ingredients of Los Angeles's farmers markets, I'd like to show you how vibrant and delicious this mid day meal can be on the other side of the world.

Homemade Bread with Labneh Zaatar and Whipped Feta
Fresh bread is served with two different spreads. The first is homemade yogurt dusted with Israeli zaatar. The second is whipped feta drizzled with pomegranate molasses. Homemade pickles and fresh vegetables are served alongside. A sweet and salty way to begin the meal.
Spring Tabouli
A bountiful quinoa tabouli with fresh peas, fava beans, spring onions, currants, pistachios, parsley and lemon.
A North African stew slowly cooked with merguez sausage, caramelized tomatoes and peppers, harissa and farm eggs. A bright salad of farmers market greens with a lemon sumac vinaigrette is served on the side, along with plenty of bread for dipping.
Coconut Basboosa
A traditional Middle Eastern semolina cake draped in honey, toasted coconut and orange blossom water. Light, floral and not too sweet.
