These delicate cakes are inspired by those from Alice in Wonderland - just be careful which ones you eat!

Ingredients

Cake Batter

¼ cup unsalted butter, room temperature
¼ cup shortening, room temperature
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
2/3 cup milk
3 egg whites

Glaze

2 lbs confectioner’s sugar
2/3 cup + 2 tbsp water
2 tsp orange extract
blue, pink and orange food coloring

Frosting

3 tbsp unsalted butter, room temperature
1 tbsp shortening, room temperature
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups confectioner’s sugar
2 tbsp milk
red and blue food coloring

Steps

Cream the butter, shortening and sugar in a bowl with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
Add the vanilla and mix until combined.
