Chicken in a Cheddar-Chive Waffle Cone
Sweet, savory and spicy, this fried chicken is served in a cheddar-chive waffle cone drizzled with a maple hot sauce syrup.
Ingredients
Chicken
- 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into nuggets
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon salt, divided
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1 egg, beaten
- 6 cups oil, for frying
Waffle Cones
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup minced chives
- 8 large egg whites
- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- Nonstick cooking spray
Sauce
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon red hot sauce

- In a large, heavy-bottomed pot, heat the oil to 350 degrees.
