Meatballs in Tomato-Cheese Sauce

These saucy meatballs are topped with cheese, then baked for extra ooey, gooey goodness.

Ingredients

Meatballs

  • 14 ounces ground beef
  • 1/2 tablespoon oregano
  • 1/2 onion, finely diced
  • 2 sage leaves
  • 1/4 tablespoon nutmeg, grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, pressed
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 old roll, crumbled
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan
  • Salt & pepper

Tomato-Cheese Sauce

  • Olive oil
  • 1/2 onion, finely diced
  • 4 thyme sprigs
  • 7 basil leaves
  • 1 can chopped tomatoes
  • 2/3 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 clove garlic, pressed
  • 3/4 cup grated mozzarella
  • 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. In a bowl, mix together all the ingredients for the meatballs.
