Thai Basil Pork (Pad ka prao)

One of the most favorite dishes in Thailand, Thai basil chicken, better known in Thai as Pad Kra Pao.


  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 6 garlic cloves
  • 6 Thai chilies
  • 1 cup Thai basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 2 eggs
  • Vegetable oil
  • Steamed white rice, to serve


  1. In a mortar and pestle, pound the garlic and chilies together into a rough paste.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a wok or pan, and add the garlic chilli paste, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and fish sauce. Sauté for 1-2 minutes, until the paste has slightly browned.
