- Welcome to Portland, land of the ports. - From what we've heard, these river people take their food so seriously out here. - [Voiceover] Press start. - [Voiceover] Epic food crawl through 24 restaurants in 24 hours. - [Voiceover] In food centric cities all across North America. - [Voiceover] But it's more than a challenge, it's journey. - In honor of this bike friendly city, we've opted to burn calories going tandem. - Let's do it. - [Voiceover] Harry, Bruce. Round one, breakfast. - This is the darkest day of gluttony we've had so far. - Darkest and chilliest for sure man. - [Harry] Crema Cafe, you ready for coffee? - [Bruce] I'm ready, we're here. - [Voiceover] This is our Mexican mocha. - [Voiceover] I'm doing a hemp cappuccino. - [Voiceover] Oh yeah. This is how they start off in Portland, huh. - These river folk take their ingredients so seriously. - The land here, it's fertile. - You gotta feel good about eating this, because everything is made from scratch. - Ready to jam out? - That was the jam. - Let's do it. - We're here at Broder. - [Bruce] For a slice of Scandinavia in southeast Portland. - We have our baked egg scramble with smoked salmon, potato pancake and of course our Danish pancakes also known as Aebleskiver. - [Bruce] It's so moist, that's a big bite. - [Harry] Oh yeah. - [Bruce] I like that we're starting off with seafood and eggs this time. - We did that in Austin. - No, we always do pork. - No we had shrimp. - [Bruce] We do brisket. - We had shrimp in Austin. - An omelette, a shrimp omelette. - Okay. - [Voiceover] I could have another one of these, they're so good. - [Voiceover] This is it, Cafe Broder. - [Bruce] I'm doing double dip. - [Harry] You're naughty, you're naughty. - [Voiceover] I'm doing double dip. - To the river! - [Bruce] Genies cafe is known for this. It's beautiful. - [Bruce] It's all locally sourced meat. - They even have their own local Portland ketchup. - [Bruce] They have hot sauce. - There's a stomach workout going on right now. - Local beets, roasted, delicious. Let's beat it. - [Harry] Let's do it. Welcome to Coava Coffee. This place is precision. - [Bruce] A gourmet coffee roaster in Portland and you can't really expect anything less. A little taste of Hawaii in Portland. - [Bruce] The owners are actually originally from the big island. - Here you go you guys, I got somefor you, chunks of pork shoulder, wrap it in a pair of leaves, banana leaves and then steam it for about six hours. - Comfort food at it's finest man. Island comfort food, I'm digging in. - Oh my God, I'm gonna take my beanie off. Spanish chorizo, always very special. - [Bruce] This is fantastic. - [Harry] Fantastic, they butcher everything in house you know it's good like that. - [Bruce]peppers, this is fantastic too. - You know what time it is Bruce? - Coffee time. - They got something special inside. - Let's hope so. - [Harry] Portland has got a reputation for great coffee. - These are two brew methods, one, cold brew and one, a mix of ournatural from El Salvadorenjoy. - We've never done a cold and hot of the same coffee. - [Bruce] This is quite the cup. - Really actually accentuates the difference between cold and hot brewing methods. - I'm going where no Bruce has gone before, this much coffee, this is about my tremble meter right there. He's got the spicy wings in his hand already. - I love chicken wings so much. And these, these are fantastic. Juan Julio, have some. - Do they have tofu wings too? - No Bruce... Juan Julio. - These are still really good. - [Harry] I can understand why these are famous wings. - I'm not giving up chicken just yet. - That's good to hear. Juan Julio, - [Bruce] I'm done. - You ready to peace out? - Ready to get out. - We're at Ground Breaker Brewrey with our friend Hannah. Do you know this is a gluten free brewery? I didn't realize that they existed. Oh hello, oh my God. - This is a scotch egg, breaded and deep fried with rice panko. This is a mushroom bread pudding. - [Voiceover] Wow! - [Man] And this is a persimmon galette. We serve eight different beers here. We have chestnuts and lentils dark roasted to give it that really great beer flavor. - This is like Disney Land for me. - [Hannah] Cheers. - [Bruce] Cheers guys. - I've never been so happy, it's like a I think we should get into some food. - [Bruce] Whole egg in your mouth. - Oh my God, what do you think? - Wow, that's really good. - Harry, you're telling me you couldn't imagine yourself living in Portland? Do you see how much food? This is amazing. I love foie gras. I wanna know if it's good. - It's very rich. - [Harry] This place is truly the trifecta. This is why Bruce and I are moving to Portland. We're here with my friend Carol. - [Carol] It's nice to actually have a place that just focuses on desert. - Bruce, what'd you get us? - A rose reserve, a premier blanc and ared for you. - [Harry] To the awesomeness of Portland. Yummy. - Juan Julio loves his bubbles. Amaretto creme brule with a chocolate sponge cake. - That is a mouth full. - [Carol] Wow. - [Harry] It's like whoa. - I didn't know that Portland was known for its bubble bars, man. - Oh this place is super cool. - [Harry] This bites going to Carol's mouth. - [Bruce] Practicing the date moves, huh. - Cheers guys. - Cheers. - [Harry] Last sip. You know what we need? - We're at Tabor Tavern, Burnside, for a little late night food, burger. - That's right, but you know what this is Oregon. So we need a lamb burger. - Bring it out man, bring it out. Take a bite, I'm telling you, our new home. - B, e, a, utiful. This is Portland meat. - That is a damn good burger. Juan Julio? - [Bruce] I'm ready. - We got a Marfa Texas with an elderflower liqueur and campari and a Fistfull of Dollars with cynar and tequila. Here's a littlefrom my homeland. - Cheers! - Let that stuff settle, wow. Fantastic. Marfa Texas never tasted so good. - This drink is money. The far, far east side is delivering. Chew it. - It's time to confess our sins of gluttony here at Church bar. You know what we need, chicken fingers. Have little bite, and if you need to, you can go confess your sins in the confession booth. - A siracha honey mustard. - My God it's amazing. - [Bruce] It's a sin. - [Harry] This is a sinfully good place. - Thank God there's only one more. Harry, I'm ready to confess. - Go for it. - Forgive me father for I have sinned. It's been, it's been a long time since my last confession. - Confession booth man, I'm not even Catholic, what am I doing here? Confession booth in a bar? - I'm sorry for eating all this meat. Oh my God, I really love it though, I really love it. - I feel kinda bad cause... I think Bruce is gonna be vegan at some point. - I don't know if I'm ready tell Harry though. He thinks I'm totally vegan. - Did I do this? Did I drive him through the day of gluttony to be vegan? - That foie gras - Bruce is talking about compost things and making kimchi. - Alright, but I'm sorry for that.
