- Hi, I'm Chef Eric Greenspan. - Hi, I'm Chef Eli. - Today, I'm working with the future of world-class chefs. - My favorite food is chocolate. Cut it, ew. I don't want to add that. I need to pause this. Sugar, boil. Okay, I got it. - Kind of have no idea what I'm cooking today, so this should be interesting. Hello, chef. - You're the chef. - Technically, you're the chef because you're telling me to cook it and I'm the cook. - Oh. - See how that works? - Yeah. - What are we making today? - I'm going to tell you when you finish making it. - Oh, so you're not going to tell me anything about what I'm making. You're going to give me step by step and, besides that, I'm going to be blind. - Yeah. - It's going to be hard. - Let's get started. - Yes, sir. What do we do first? - It's in here. - Whoa! Need help, you got it? - I got it. - What is that thing? - I can't tell. - You can't tell me what this is? - I do know, but I can't tell you. - You can't tell me what it is? Alright, well, so be it. Whatever this thing is, let's do it. What do we gotta do to it? - We gotta fry it. - We're gonna fry it like that? - Yeah. No, no. We have to get something else. - Yeah, what are we gonna get? - No, first we have to put stuff in the pan. - Alright, what do we gotta put? - We're gonna put soy sauce. - Uh-huh, in the pan? - Yeah. - Okay. I'm gonna leave it over here and you're gonna tell me when to put it in and how much. - Yeah, one teaspoon of soy sauce. - Okay. - One teaspoon of day-shi powder, dashi powder, whatever. - What is dashi powder? - It's seaweed that dried and made into a powder. - A tablespoon or a teaspoon? What do you think? - Teaspoon. - Teaspoon. You mind if I just do this? Tell me when. - Yeah, that's enough. Okay, now we have to get the sugar. - Yes, sir. Sugar. - And we have to get, I'll get the mirin. - Is that enough? - Yeah. Now a tablespoon of mirin, I mean teaspoon, teaspoon, teaspoon. - Got it. This little one, right? - Yeah. - Alright. - And then we need a half a cup of water. We need rice. - Oh, where do we get the rice? Okay, you got it? - Yeah, that's a lot of rice. - Why don't we just put the whole thing here? - We have to add two stuff to this. - Do I do anything to this yet? - No, you have to add it in here. - Okay. - And then stuff it in. - All of it? - No, two. - Just two? - Yeah, put two pieces there. - Alright, lift it up again like that, so it's a bit like a sock? - Yeah, like that. Yeah, yeah. And then you add the tentacles back on. I'm letting you do this. - How do I, so how do I add the tentacles back on? - Just like this. Put it there. - Just put it there? - Yeah. - Like that? Oh, it's got me. Ah! So we've got the rice. Gotta tuck, tuck all the tentacles inside? - No. - Just leave them out like that? - Leave them all out. You have to put it in the frying pan. - So I'm just gonna put this in like this? - Yeah. You have to put this on it. - What's this? - It's sesame paper or something. - Sesame paper, got it. - Yeah, and so you have to heat it up. So heat up the frying pan thing there. And now we have to run it for five minutes. - Five minutes? - Yeah. - What are we gonna do for five minutes? I'm whooping you right now, chef. - Pound, dew-dew, dew. - I don't even know what that is. That's even a real-- You didn't do anything. You made up a new thing. - It's a paper. - It's paper? It's like dog, woof, woof, woof, woof. - No, it's paper, scissors and rock combo. - Oh, what? You always win, that's-- - I'm kidding. Oh, we have to flip it now. - Ah! - You have to flip it. - Alright, so we take this off, like this. - Oh, it looks good! - Like that? - Yeah. - We need to put more liquid in there? - No. - Are you sure? - Yeah. No, don't do that! - I'm sorry, chef. - Sir, sir, you're fired. - Oh, man. - I'm kidding. - Yay! Is it supposed to do that? - Yeah, it's supposed to burn. - So we're gonna burn it, cool it, cut it, eat it, that's it. - Yeah. - Sounds delicious. - I'm not eating it. - No, you're not gonna eat it? - Yeah. - We both have to eat it. Alright so take this out and put it where? - Put it on the cutting board cause we have to cut it. - You want to see the bottom? - Oh, yum. We have to cut it right down the middle, cut that part off and then cut that part off. - So we're gonna cut this part off first? - Yeah. - What do I do next? - You cut that, the tentacle part off. - Take the tentacles off? - Yeah. And be safe. - Thank you. Want to try it? - Ew, no. You try it. Sir, sir, sir. - Okay. - That was not fair rules. - My bad. So now what do I do? - Just cut in the middle bit there. You have to use a spatula or else it will fall out. - Just put it here? - Yeah. - And where do I put my piece. Here? - Yeah. Listen, these are what it's supposed to look like and this is actually what we look like. - How do you think we did? - Correct. - Yeah, I think we did a really good job. Look, they're both stuffed with rice. They both have that nice kind of charred color on the outside, right? - I guess. - Chef Eli, what did we make? - We made ikameshi. - I'm sorry, what? - Ikameshi. - What is ikameshi? - Stuffed squid in Japanese. - You know Japanese? - Yeah. - Are you the smartest dude ever? - No, so. - Should we try it? Which one should we try? - Ours first. - I want to try ours. You nailed it. The rice is delicious, right? The squid is that fun chewy thing going on there, right. Yeah, it's great. I'm really happy that you showed me how to do this. What'd you do, what-- - I finally swallowed it whole. - It took a bit. Chef Eli, I think this is delicious. It looks like this was a success, huh? - Yay! - Can I get a high-five? - Ow. - You want to show me around the rest of the house? - This is-- It's only the kitchen.
