- Who wants to sit in a closet? - [Woman] Hey, you ready? - [Man] What's on the other side? - Matt, no! - Gimme some of that. Gimme some of that. My name is Mike Deoglorio Hi, I'm Karla and I'm moving into Mike's apartment. I lived my whole life in New York and I finally made the big move to L.A. I've been couch surfing this whole time that I've been here and my friend Mike offered me a room finally that I could have all to my own. - This is it. - Home sweet home. Wow. Mikey, this is amazing. - I decided to let Karla move in with me because I took a look at where she was living and I was worried. Karla really had no privacy. - I lived with three messy boys. - They were animals. - It just wasn't a good situation. - There was seven different kinds of mold. - I didn't feel comfortable there at all. Look at this. - [Mike] I did put a picture out of us. - I see. - In one of our more happier times. - Three years ago. We have to get some pictures up from high school. - Alright. - Wow, look at this. I've known Mikey almost my whole life. We met in middle school but really became friends in high school. You're helping me out in a bad situation right now. This is definitely an upgrade for sure. I'm super excited to live with one of my best friends and what's really exciting is I don't have to pay any rent which is going to be helpful because right now I'm kinda getting back on my feet. - I don't want her to pay me anything, I want her to save her money so she can get her own place. - I don't have that much stuff, most of it is clothes but I do have my desk that I work on. - I don't know. There's no room for that. I have not had a roommate ever. - Is there enough closet space? I have a lot of clothes. - The closet in the bedroom is being used by me but I have some room in the coat closet. - In my bedroom? - Yes. - You're using it? - I am. - For what? - For other stuff. - I'm a little concerned I won't be able to bring all of my things in. This is great, Mikey. - Thank you. I put minimal effort but it looks good. - I like the bed, before I had a queen size bed. I think this is a full. - Alright, well I don't expect you to have any company over so I should have just put a twin in. - Mikey is wild. He can be all over the place or he can be like a gentleman. - If Karla's gonna live here, she needs to respect my neighbors, make your bed, one load of laundry a week, take off your shoes, showers under 30 minutes, I do not want you going in to my wine. Playing music on her cell phone while going number one so we don't have to hear her tinkle. Well, I expect this to be pristine when I come home, door open, I don't want you to do anything behind this. - Okay, this is going to be my little space that I'm going to make comfortable for me. I really liked the room when I walked in but the way Mikey is making me feel, he's making me feel like I can't put my own twist on it so I hope he opens up a little bit and let's me make it my own. I'm just hoping maybe we can bring some of this stuff upstairs and see how it might fit. - If it's shitty, it's going out on the street. - Okay, no problem. But we're going to try our hardest to definitely put some of that stuff in there. For sure cause I really-- - Ah. - I really need it. I really want to keep my desk because that's where I do all my work. I do my writings there, I draw in my sketchbook there, I also have my computer on there which is a stand up computer for me. - Alright, so no room, let's throw it out the window. - We didn't even measure yet. Relax. - Karla's desk is a piece of junk. There's scratches all over it, there's a weird yellow stain. I couldn't see her doing anything productive on that desk. - Maybe this wall right over here. We could push this drawer down and put it right over here. I think everything will fit. - Paint the walls, change the rug. I had some major concerns about her getting too comfortable. - Does this have to stay here? - [Mike] Yeah, those are my files. - [Karla] Right. - I mean, I don't want you to get too comfortable here as a guest. - Mikey! I'm not a guest. - [Mike] I'm saving your back. - It's still my room that you're staying in for an indiscriminate amount of time. - I just hope that these rules don't kinda get in the way of our friendship. I mean, let's just test that, if we can move anything. - It's for your own welfare. - Alright, I'm definitely okay with getting rid of this. - Okay. - If it makes the room-- - Feel bigger. - I see it, yeah. - And less dirty. - I see, yeah. So I mean, I could use this desk. You know, make it my own and put my computer there. - Alright. Oh, this is a nice way to carry. I think I see a roach on there. - No, stop. - I think I do. - No, stop. - No, wait. That's just damage. Walk away. - Okay, let's go. I'm all situated in the room so now I'm ready to talk to Mikey about this guest roommate situation. I really want him to consider me a roommate instead of a guest. Hey Mikey. - Hey. - All done with everything and I wanted to talk to you a little bit about this guest roommate situation. - Sure. - My mom said that guests are like fish, they stink after three days. I was hoping to maybe make this more long term. - I don't know about that. I haven't had a roommate ever. I'm not used to living with someone. I don't want you to have the pressure of becoming a roommate until you are ready. - Even though Mikey is letting me live her rent free, I do want to show him that I am working and that in a few months, I will be able to pay him rent month to month. Ultimately, this is your home and I want to respect your house so I'll follow any rules that you give me but I still want to feel comfortable. I just want to hopefully build our friendship and you know, just get my footing. - I'm happy to have Karla live with me. We've been friends for so long. I can't see her going out of my life. So you're my guest now and you might become a roommate eventually when you're ready. - Yes, once all the trust is established which is there but you know, we're going to test it out now. I'm really happy that Mikey and I came to that conclusion. He's the perfect roommate for me. I couldn't imagine living with anyone else. - I'm really happy Karla's come to live with me and my home is her home. - From the bottom of my heart, it means everything to me how much you're helping me out. No one else would help me out like you do so thank you, really.
