- Who wants to sit in a closet? - [Woman] Alright, you ready? - [Man] What's on the other side? - Matt no! - Give me some of that. Give me some of that. - I'm Amanda. - And I'm Matt. - We're newlyweds. We've been together for almost a decade. We've had a lot of changes in the past few months.. - We bought a new house. Just bought a new car. I'm changing jobs. - And I just found out that I'm pregnant with our first child. - So, my parents have wonderfully volunteered to drive out from Texas to help us move. - I'm Kathleen. I'm Matt's mom. I love their new condo and it's absolutely beautiful. No, I wanna see the baby room first. - Oh yeah, the baby room. - Show me that. - [Amanda] We still have to paint another coat. - Wow. Finally I'm gonna be a grandmother. Golly. We're really excited this is our first grandchild and we just can't wait. - One last load and then we get to load the big stuff. - Oh God, you should've brought a younger man to do all this. My name's Tim. I'm Matt's dad. - My dad's a great guy. He's kind of the jack of all trades. See I knew we could move all this stuff without a U-Haul. I don't believe in moving trucks because it cost a lot of money and definitely don't believe in movers. Ready? - Yeah ready. As long as I'm capable of helping, I love to go help my children. - How do you like this bookshelf? - It's wonderful. - We got that from the alleyway. - One man's trash is another man's treasure. - We agreed that when we move into our new place we're gonna start fresh and donate a lot of stuff. Alright, so it's time to start unpacking. So, I'm ready to get rid of some stuff. - Well, I hope you're lucky 'cause I've been trying to do that for 40 years with his father and it's not working. - We can start with this one. It's called junk drawer. - Oh my gosh. What are these for? - Those are googly eyes. I put them on the fridge. - Wow. Matt has always been a hoarder just like his father. - What is this? Sacred temple of the tooth relic. - I wanna see them, maybe I'd want them. - Being a hoarder is a family trait. - You can take everything please. - I'll be stealing your cds, so you know. - What are you all doing? - We're just unpacking. - [Kathleen] See, that's for the baby's room. - What are the two piles? - What two piles? What are you talking about? - [Amanda] This is donate. We're donating. - We need all that stuff for the volleyball tournament. - I'm finding a wallet from when he was 10. We don't need that stuff anymore. - This is my surf hair. I don't like to buy a whole lot of new stuff, so I don't have too much stuff. - What is this? Natural selection of the evolutionary status of culture. - [Matt] Oh, that was from my Native American history class. - You didn't write it, right? - No. - It's a published paper you can find it online. - Why do you want to keep it? - It's hard to find online. I throw away things that are not useful but I keep things that are useful. - List one thing you've thrown away in the past three months. - Milk carton. Let's go get the couch and then we'll come back. - No, no, no, no, no, no. Do not bring that couch into this room. You promised me that when we moved out of that place we would get rid of lumpy. - Lumpy is an amazing couch that we got two years ago when we moved into our first apartment. Our friends have named our couch because they enjoy sitting on it so much. - All our friends who come over complain about it. They even joke about pitching in to buy us a new couch. It's embarrassing. You know what, the dog threw up on that couch earlier this week. There's dog hair all over that couch. - We have a vacuum right there. - No. - We'll vacuum it before we bring it up. How about that? That's a deal? - No. - I think the dog actually pooped on the couch. He didn't throw up on the couch. - Matt you're not bringing that couch in here. - I was guilted into buying lumpy because I had a friend drive 25 minutes with us and so, two years later we still have lumpy. I'm not attached to it. It's uncomfortable now, just imagine when I'm very pregnant. I'm gonna be even bigger. Matt promised me a new sofa, new stuff when we moved out of our apartment into our own place. - I've always hated lumpy myself. It's not a comfortable couch and it's very ugly, so I'm on Amanda's side with this. I think she should make him get rid of it. - When I bring the couch you have to help me defend it from Amanda. - Yeah, but I like Amanda better than I like you. - So, one of the reasons I don't want to buy a new couch is vecause I don't wanna spend three or $5000 for a new couch. - I think I hear them outside. I'm gonna go stop them before they move the couch in. - Oh boy. - I don't care what it takes. I don't care if I have to physically stand in front of him and avoid him coming into the house. He's not bringing that couch up the stairs. Matt no! Do not bring lumpy in here. Please. I see a sofa on top of the car and I'm furious. - But you haven't even seen the couch we have yet. - What is this? I know Matt wouldn't buy a couch by himself. - Didn't you want a new couch? - Where's lumpy. - It's a new couch. You said you wanted a new couch for the new house. Do you wanna see it? Hopefully you like it. - Oh my gosh. - I had to pick it up by myself because I wanted to surprise you. - Is it from the side of the street? - No. Look it's brand new. - I can't believe Matt went to the furniture store. Is this my husband? I'm so excited. He is still able to surprise me after 10 years. - Sit down. - You notice it don't ever rain in California, why don't we just leave it here? - Matt you did such a good job picking out this couch. It's a perfect addition and a brand new start. - I'm glad you like it. It'll be nice to enjoy the new couch and the new house with you. - I love you. - I love you too.
