- Did you know you live in a food desert? Do you know what that is? A food desert is a neighborhood that the residents have to travel more than a mile to access fresh food. Now, some neighborhoods are labeled food swamp because they have an abundance of fast food places and liquor stores, as opposed to grocery stores. That's food-ish. That's hunger prevention, not food. A neighborhood like this where it's block after block after block of houses, if we got three people growing per block, suddenly this is a food oasis, not a food desert. Imagine how that's a game-changer, suddenly a game-changer. It takes educating people about what is possible, and then creating a bridge to the possibility 'cause if you can grow food at home, then you're changing the definition in your neighborhood of food access miles away to food access steps away. You gotta have food. Gotta have it.
