Cuban Sandwich

No tiny sandwich is complete without a tiny side of chips.


  • 1 inch pork shoulder
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/8 teaspoon oregano
  • Pinch red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon orange juice
  • 1/2 tablespoon chicken broth
  • 2 slices of bread
  • 1/4 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1 slice ham
  • 1 slice Swiss cheese
  • 2 pickle slices
  • 1 teaspoon butter


  1. Season pork with salt and pepper. In a small saucepan, add spices, orange juice, chicken broth and pork. Braise pork for 10 minutes. Allow to cool slightly and then slice.
  2. To assemble sandwich: Spread mustard on bread and top with sliced pork, ham, cheese and pickles.
  3. In a skillet, melt butter and place sandwich in pan. Press down on the sandwich with another pan to flatten slightly. Cook on both sides until golden brown.
