BIO

My name is Umut. I was born in Antakya, a small Mediterranean city in Turkey. From a very young age I enjoyed helping my mom and grandmother to cook and bake. I really enjoyed my childhood.

I went to Eskişehir Anadolu University for Economy and Finance education when I was 17. After graduating in 2003 I moved to İstanbul and worked in the banking and investments industry. In 2009 decided to go to London for 6 months to study English and started to work in restaurants as a dishwasher in order to understand a professional kitchen.

I moved back to Istanbul, and quit banking in 2011 and enrolled in professional chef courses at Culinary Arts Academy (MSA) - Istanbul.

I finished my internship in Sheraton Hotels Istanbul in the Butchery and Hot Banquet sections. Afterward I started working at Wagamama ( Japanese Cuisine) as a Teppan and Fry line cook. My last stops in Turkey were Fumee (fine dining Turkish Cuisine) and Muzede Changa (fine dining Turkish Cuisine) as a Prep Cook after following my Chef Pinar Tasdemir.

I moved to Portland, Oregon in December 2015 and started volunteering in kitchens and working in a restaurant as line cook, prep cook and baker.

I want you to discover my cuisine with me and have a nice feast with some Turkish Music.
