Aloo Tikki Burger

Check out this hearty, satisfying, and meatless Aloo Tiki burger.

Ingredients

Aloo Tikki Burger

  • 2 large potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon amchoor powder (dried mango powder) or chaat masala powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried mint
  • 1/2 cup fresh coriander, chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 4 tablespoons canola/vegetable oil
  • 6 burger buns
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Tomatoes, thinly sliced
  • Sweet onion (Vidalia), thinly sliced

Coriander Chutney

  • 1 cup fresh coriander
  • 1 small green chili, chopped
  • 1/2 small white onion, chopped
  • Juice of 1/2 a lemon
  • Salt to taste

Steps

Aloo Tikki Burger

  1. Boil potatoes until fork-tender. Gently mash, adding patty spices, fresh coriander, salt and cornstarch. Mix until incorporated.
  2. Form 6 medium-sized patties similar to the size of the burger bun.
  3. Heat oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat.
  4. When hot, add patties and fry for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crisp. Drain on a paper towel.
  5. Brush melted butter onto burger buns; toast them in a hot pan.
  6. Add lettuce to the bottom bun, followed by Aloo Tikki Patty and sliced tomatoes and onions.
  7. Dress with coriander chutney before adding top bun.

Coriander Chutney

  1. Combine all ingredients for chutney in a blender, and blitz until pureed.
