Asian Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

  • 16 oz minced pork
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 4 tbsp ginger, grated
  • 4 large cloves garlic, grated
  • 1 spring onion, greens too, minced
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 8 large napa cabbage leaves

Sauce

  • 2/3 cup hoisin
  • 3 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp garlic paste
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

Serve With

  • Jasmine rice
  • Pickled vegetables (sliced carrot/radish)
  • Spring onions

Steps

Asian Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Bring a large pan of water to a simmer. Blanch the cabbage leaves for 3 to 4 minutes until soft and pliable, then rinse under cold water, drain and pat dry.
  3. In a food processor, add the pork filling ingredients and process until well mixed, then divide into 8 pieces. Roll into short sausage shapes.
  4. Lay out one cabbage leaf and brush with marinade. Put a pork sausage at the stalk end and gently roll it up. Put it onto a flat baking sheet, seal side down, and repeat with the rest.
  5. Brush each leave generously with marinade, then cook for 30 minutes.
  6. Serve hot with rice, extra sauce, finely sliced spring onions and pickled vegetables on the side.

Sauce

  1. Put all of the sauce ingredients into a bowl and whisk together. Place half into a separate dish and reserve for serving.
