Blood Lust Donut Cake

This Blood Lust Halloween Donut cake is perfect for any halloween party, it's fun to make and looks so cool!

Ingredients

  • 50 milliliters of liquid red food dye
  • 1 cup corn syrup. Maple syrup, simple syrup or glucose syrup will also work.

Steps

  1. Simply combine together and mix well. Can be stored in an airtight container for up to two weeks.

Ingredients

  • 400 grams white cooking chocolate
  • 200 milliliters whipping cream
  • 2 drops of red food gel

Steps

  1. Add chocolate and cream into a large microwave safe bowl. Microwave for 20 seconds at a time, mixing each time until it's smooth. Add red food dye and mix well until coloured evenly.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons powdered gelatine
  • 1 cup of boiling water
  • 2-3 drops red food dye
  • 1 tablespoon whipping cream
  • 1 pkt raspberry jelly (follow instructions on box)
  • 50-100 straws
  • 1 elastic band
  • 1 tall cup

Steps

  1. To prepare equipment extend the end of all the straws. Put them into a tall cup or a clean milk carton if you have one. Tie an elastic band around the straws to keep them together.
  2. Follow instructions on box to make raspberry jelly.
  3. To make creamy jelly simply add powdered gelatine to boiling water and mix until gelatine is dissolved. Add 1 tablespoon of cream and red food dye and whisk until well combined.
  4. Carefully pour some of the raspberry jelly into the straws, taking care not to spill it. Fill the straws up just below half way. Let them sit for about 20 min before you pour the creamy gelatine mixture into the straws.
  5. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours. Overnight is best.
  6. To take the worms out of the straws you can either squeeze them out by hand, run them under some hit water for them to slip out or use a rolling pin to squeeze them out.

Ingredients

  • 429 grams all-purpose flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 265 grams granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 375 milliliters of milk
  • 125 milliliters vegetable oil
  • 125 grams butter
  • 2 tablespoons Greek yogurt (can substitute with sour cream)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs

Steps

  1. Heat oven to 160C (320F). Line cupcake tin with paper cupcake cases.
  2. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine the dry ingredients. Turn mixer on low and allow it to mix for a couple minutes. Add the softened butter and let it mix until it resembles a fine sand like texture.
  3. Next combine all milk, eggs, yogurt, oil and vanilla extract in a large jug and whisk well.
  4. Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients in a slow and steady stream until no dry ingredients are visible. Scrape down the bowl and mix for another 20 seconds. Add 4-5 drops of black food dye and mix on low speed. You may want to scrape down the bowl to make sure everything coloured evenly.
  5. Fill each paper 3/4 of the way (you can use a small ice cream scoop, equivalent to two teaspoons, to transfer the batter into the cupcake liners). Bake for 15-20 min or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Allow them to cool completely on a cooling rack before frosting.
  6. To finish the cake off, simply dip half of each donut into the red ganache and let any excess drip off. Place on a flat surface. If you find the ganache is too thick, you may microwave it for 5 seconds at a time, mixing each time to help thin it out. You don't want it too thin otherwise it becomes too translucent. Find a happy medium. You'll have 6 donuts on each layer and have 4 layers of donuts. You may use a jar the size of a regular drinking glass and place it in the center to help get a better circle shape, but this is optional. If you find the donuts are slipping around too much your ganache may be too thin or too warm, Let it cool a little (about 10 min) and allow each layer to set a little too before adding the next layer of donuts.
  7. Once you've got all your layers done drizzle some edible blood on top, spread you gummy worms all over and place some syringes filled with edible blood on top (optional).
