• Olive oil, for frying
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • Salt and pepper
  • 2 tablespoons tomato extract
  • 1 can peeled tomatoes
  • Chopped parsley, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 3 cups milk
  • Nutmeg, to taste
  • 3 potatoes, sliced
  • 5 ounces ham, sliced
  • 5 ounces cheese, sliced
  • 3/4 cup mozzarella cheese, grated


  1. Preheat oven to 390 degrees.
  2. In a hot frying pan, add olive oil and fry the onion and garlic. Add the meat and season with salt and pepper. Brown well, and add the tomato extract and the peeled tomatoes. Let cook until it forms a thick sauce. Add the parsley. Set aside.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter and add the flour, stirring constantly. Add the milk, continuing to stir, until smooth. Season with salt and nutmeg. Set aside.
  4. In a greased, glass baking pan, place a layer of potatoes, some meat sauce, ham and cheese slices. Repeat the process, finishing with a layer of potatoes, white sauce and grated mozzarella cheese.
  5. Bake for 30 minutes. Allow to cool slightly, then serve.
