Cinnamon Bun Doughnuts

We combined your two favorite morning indulgences into one.

  • Doughnut batter:
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup + 1 tablespoon buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons crushed pecans
  • Glaze:
  • 56 grams cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1/3 cup confectioner's sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk

  1. Make the doughnuts: Whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon in a small bowl and set aside. In a large bowl, combine the butter, sugar, honey and vanilla extract. Add the buttermilk and mix until combined. Add the dry ingredients and mix until just combined - make sure not to overmix. Transfer the batter to a piping bag. In a separate bowl, combine the ground cinnamon, brown sugar and crushed pecans.
  2. Fill a greased doughnut pan halfway with the batter. Sprinkle the sugar mixture onto the doughnuts, then top with another layer of batter.
  3. Bake at 400F for 7 minutes. Cool for 1 minute in the pan, then flip the pan over to remove the doughnuts and cool completely on a wire rack.
  4. Make the glaze: Cream the cream cheese in a bowl with an electric mixer until fluffy. Add the confectioner's sugar and milk and mix until combined. Dunk the doughnuts into the glaze and transfer to a wire rack. Enjoy!
