Clam Chowder Gratin Bowl

This clam chowder bread bowl with bacon is chowdah this world!

Ingredients

  • 1 package Manila clams
  • 1/4 cup white wine
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 carrot, chopped
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 5 slices bacon, chopped
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon dried chicken stock
  • 1 3/4 cups milk
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • For serving:
  • 3 small bread bowls
  • 3/4 cup shredded cheese
  • Parsley, finely chopped

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a frying pan, add the clams and white wine. Heat until shells are fully open.
  3. In a saucepan over low heat, add butter, carrots, onions, bacon, salt and pepper.
  4. Stir to combine, then stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
  5. Add chicken stock, milk, cream and clams, and cook over medium heat for 5 minutes.
  6. Divide soup among bread bowls, top with cheese and bake for 20 minutes.
  7. Garnish with parsley before serving.
