- Wanna ride a crazy beast that never sleeps? Just hop onto the New York City subway. Almost six million people use it every day and I'm about to be one of them as I show you my favorite unique subway stations. First stop: 81st Street Museum of Natural History. This is the real concrete jungle or ocean, hold your breath. Mosaics and fossil casts come to life featuring extinct and living animals. Look closely for question marks identifying which ones are endangered. Learn and explore how we're all connected as you wait for the next train. Bleeker Street. There's always somethin' buzzin' at this station. The hive, it's a color-changed LED light installation. I know this is called the hive, but I like to call it the Bey-hive. 42nd Street at Byrant Park. Features one of the largest art installations in the subway system. It's a beautiful combination of mosaic tiles and literary quotes. I like this mosaic because it makes you think, are these thunder bolts or are they tree roots? Yeah, I like to get deep. That's what he said. Uh, let's go hop on the D. 23rd Street. Play a quick game of dress-up with hats worn by famous people in the area during the late 1880s and early 1900s. 14th Street and 8th Avenue. If you spend enough time in the subway you'll start to notice life underground. Find these whimsical bronze sculptures in unexpected places. You know that urban legend about alligators in the sewers? You better believe it.
