Custard Pudding in a Bun

The best food combinations aren't always obvious — like this savory/sweet concoction.


  • Dough:
  • 100 grams flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon instant dry yeast
  • 1/2 tablespoon sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 50-55cc hot water
  • 1/2 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 30 grams pumpkin
  • Caramel sauce:
  • 50 grams granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 tablespoons very hot water
  • Other ingredients:
  • 1 ready-made custard pudding
  • Whipped cream
  • Fresh fruits


  1. Transfer custard pudding onto a tray and freeze until firm.
  2. In a saucepan, combine granulated sugar and water and cook over medium heat until amber in color.
  3. Add in very hot water and mix to combine. Set aside.
  4. Combine ingredients together until it forms a dough. Leave in a warm oven (40 degrees C) for approximately 30 minutes.
  5. Wrap the frozen custard pudding inside the dough. Steam bun for 6-8 minutes on low heat.
  6. Transfer bun onto a plate. Pour caramel sauce over the bun and serve with fresh fruits and whipped cream.
