Dairy-Free Milk 4 Ways

No cow necessary for these DIY almond, oat, hemp seed and soy milk varieties.

Ingredients

  • Almond Milk
  • 1 cup whole raw almonds
  • 4 cups water
  • Oat Milk
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 4 cups water
  • Soy Milk
  • 1 cup soybeans
  • 4 cups water
  • Hemp Seed Milk
  • 1 cup hemp seeds
  • 4 cups water

Steps

  1. Almond Milk
  2. In a bowl, cover almonds with water and soak overnight.
  3. Drain the liquid and add to a blender with 4 cups water. Blend until smooth, about 2 minutes.
  4. Use a nut bag, cheesecloth, or clean kitchen towel to strain the liquid into a pitcher. Squeeze the contents to extract as much liquid as possible. Sweeten or flavor with ingredients of your choice. Transfer to a bottle.
  5. Oat Milk
  6. In a bowl, cover rolled oats with water and soak overnight.
  7. Drain the liquid and add to a blender with 4 cups water. Blend until smooth, about 2 minutes.
  8. Use a nut bag, cheesecloth, or clean kitchen towel to strain the liquid into a pitcher. Squeeze the contents to extract as much liquid as possible. Sweeten or flavor with ingredients of your choice. Transfer to a bottle.
  9. Soy Milk
  10. In a bowl, cover soybeans with water and soak overnight.
  11. While in the soaking liquid, rub off and remove the outer skins and drain. Add to a blender with 4 cups water. Blend until mostly smooth.
  12. Use a nut bag, cheesecloth, or clean kitchen towel to strain the liquid into a pot. Squeeze the contents to extract as much liquid as possible.
  13. Simmer for 15 minutes, while stirring occasionally. Allow to cool and transfer to a pitcher or bottle.

  15. Add everything to a blender and blend until smooth.
  16. Use a nut bag, cheesecloth, or clean kitchen towel to strain the liquid into a pitcher. Squeeze the contents to extract as much liquid as possible. Sweeten or flavor with ingredients of your choice. Transfer to a bottle.
