Deep-Fried Stuffed Fish Cakes

It's the grown-up, delicious way to eat fish sticks.

Ingredients

  • 5 sticks Chikuwa (fish cake)
  • 5 slices cheese
  • 250 grams ground pork
  • 1/2 onion, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 30 grams panko bread crumbs
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 80 grams flour
  • 80 grams water
  • Panko bread crumbs
  • Tonkatsu sauce

Steps

  1. Cut cheese slice in half and push it into the chikuwa from both sides.
  2. Mix together ground pork, minced onion, egg, 30 grams panko, salt and pepper.
  3. Wrap the chikuwa with the ground pork mixture.
  4. Combine 80 grams flour with 80 grams water. Coat the chikuwa with the flour mixture. Then roll it around some panko bread flour and coat well.
  5. Deep-fry for 5 minutes at 170 degrees C or until golden brown.
  6. Serve with tonkatsu sauce if desired.
