Deep-Fried Tomato and Avocado Katsu

Stuffed with cheesy avocado mash and wrapped in breaded pork belly, this loaded tomato is what savory deliciousness is all about.

Ingredients

  • 10 thinly-sliced pork belly
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 2 tablespoons pizza sauce
  • Cheese
  • 3 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Flour
  • Panko bread crumbs
  • Oil for deep-frying
  • Shredded cabbage
  • Lemon wedge

Steps

  1. In a bowl, combine avocado, pizza sauce, cheese, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Mix everything up, mashing the avocado with a fork.
  2. Peel the tomatoes in hot water and scoop out the flesh with a spoon.
  3. Fill with the avocado mixture.
  4. Arrange pork slices in a circle, overlapping each other in the center.
  5. Season with salt and pepper and sprinkle with a little flour.
  6. Place the tomato in the center of the pork slices.
  7. Wrap the pork slices around the tomato.
  8. Coat with flour. Then dip into the egg wash. Finally coat well with panko.
  9. Deep-fry in hot oil until crispy and golden brown.
  10. In a bowl, combine the tomato flesh and worcestershire sauce and microwave for 30-40 seconds. Mix well and pour over the Katsu.
