Fluffy and Cheesy Japanese Chicken Meatballs


  • Green onions, as needed
  • Fish Cake & Chicken Meatballs:
  • 300g ground chicken
  • 100g fish cake (“Hanpen”)
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Salt, as needed
  • Pepper, as needed
  • 15g green onions, chopped
  • Ginger, grated (as needed)
  • 6 Camembert cheese cubes
  • Green Onion Sauce:
  • 1 stalk green onion, finely chopped
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Pepper to taste
  • 45g sesame oil


  1. Strain the fish cake through a mesh strainer.
  2. Add ground chicken and all meatball ingredients to the strained fish cake and mix well.
  3. Scoop the meatball mixture, pat down with your fingers and put a cube of Camembert cheese in the center. Wrap the meat around the cheese, rolling to form into a ball.
  4. Cook them in a frying pan until golden brown on both sides. Add a few drops of water, put a lid on, and let it steam until cooked through.
  5. Combine green onion sauce ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Heat in a 500W microwave for one minute.
  6. Place the meatballs on a plate and pour over the green onion sauce. Sprinkle with some green onions and enjoy!
