French Fry Sugar Cookies

Sneak dessert into dinner with soft and chewy sugar cookies that resemble french fries and wedges!

  • Cookie Dough:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Toppings:
  • Cocoa powder
  • Sanding sugar
  • Strawberry jelly
  • Vanilla frosting
  • Red food coloring

  1. Combine the flour, salt and baking powder in a bowl. In a separate bowl, beat the butter and sugar with an electric mixer until pale and fluffy. Add the milk, egg and vanilla extract and mix well.
  2. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the fridge for 1 hour.
  3. To make wedges:
  4. Without chilling the dough, shape the dough into a potato-shape. Slice in half width-ways, to create 2 flat potatoes. Use a clean paintbrush to dust the entire surface of both potatoes with cocoa powder. Wrap them in plastic wrap and freeze for 1 hour, or until frozen solid.
  5. Slice the potatoes into wedges and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Return to the freezer for 20 minutes.
  6. Bake at 350F for 10 minutes, or until the edges are starting to brown. Cool completely and enjoy!
  7. To make ketchup and fries:
  8. Roll the dough out until it is 1/4 inch-thick. Slice into long rectangles and transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle with sanding sugar, to look like salt.
  9. Freeze for 20 minutes, then bake at 350F for 10 minutes, or until the edges are starting to brown. Cool completely.
  10. To make the ketchup, combine some strawberry jelly and vanilla frosting - use your desired ratio to reach your desired consistency. Add a couple drops of food coloring to mimic ketchup.
  11. Dunk the cookies into the 'ketchup' and enjoy!
