Fried Mozzarella & Prosciutto Pockets

Think of these as jumbo mozzarella sticks stuffed with fresh basil, prosciutto and tomato sauce.


  • 14 ounces brick of mozzarella
  • 4 eggs
  • Salt & pepper
  • 4 prosciutto slices
  • Fresh basil leaves as needed
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 2 cups breadcrumbs
  • Salt, pepper, and frying oil


  1. Cut the mozzarella into 4 equal slices (approximately 1/2-inch thick).
  2. Beat the eggs with a little salt and pepper.
  3. Add prosciutto slices and basil leaves on top of 2 of the mozzarella pieces. Top with a little tomato sauce. Cover with the other mozzarella slices, forming a sandwich.
  4. Dip in flour (shaking off the excess), then in egg, and finally in breadcrumbs. Repeat this step until well-coated.
  5. Fry in oil until browned. Serve topped with more tomato sauce.
