Frosted Pink Sugar Cookies

These frosting rich and super soft sugar cookies from your childhood taste even better than you remember.


  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/2 cup plain whole milk (not Greek) yogurt
  • Frosting:
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • A pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Pink food coloring
  • Sprinkles


  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Combine the flour, salt and baking powder. Set aside.
  3. Cream together the butter and sugar. Add the lemon zest to the butter mixture. Mix in each egg, one by one, until fully blended. Do the same with the vanilla.
  4. Add half of the flour mixture to the butter and mix well. Add half of the yogurt and mix. Repeat with the remaining flour mixture and then the remaining yogurt.
  5. Scoop out portions about 2 inches in diameter onto parchment-lined pans. Bake until lightly browned. Start checking for doneness at 15 minutes.
  6. In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat together the butter, sugar, salt, cream, vanilla and food coloring until fluffy, about 5 minutes.
  7. Let cookies cool, then decorate with frosting and sprinkles.
