• Steamed Bun Batter:
  • 150g cake flour
  • 1tsp baking powder
  • 50g sugar
  • 150g milk
  • 1tbsp vegetable oil
  • Food coloring (yellow, red, orange, green, black)
  • A pinch of black sesame seeds
  • Topping:
  • 1 cookie stick
  • 1 mint leaf


  1. Mix all the ingredients for the Steamed Bread Batter. Set the batter aside.
  2. Divide the batter and mix in the food colorings to make 6 different colored batters (yellow, red, orange, green, yellow-green and black). Take half of the red batter and mix in black sesame seeds. Transfer each batter to pastry bags.
  3. Apple: fill cupcake liner 8/10 full with the yellow batter, and pipe the red batter on top.
  4. Melon: fill cupcake liner 8/10 full with the orange batter and pipe in the yellow-green batter.
  5. Draw in lines with the white batter on top of the yellow-green batter.
  6. Watermelon: fill cupcake liner 7/10 full with the red batter with black sesame seeds. Pipe the white batter on top first and then green batter second. Draw lines with the black batter and run a toothpick through the lines in a swirling motion to create the marbling effect.
  7. Steam for at least 15 minutes over high heat or until a bamboo skewer inserted into the middle comes out clean.
  8. Insert the cookie stick in the apple steamed bun and decorate with mint leaf. Enjoy!
