Game of Thrones Cocktails

These cocktails are perfect for a Game of Thrones party!

Ingredients

  • 1 (750 ml) bottle red wine
  • 1 orange, sliced into rounds, plus more for garnish
  • 8 whole cloves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 star anise, plus more for garnish
  • 2 tablespoons honey

Steps

  1. Combine all ingredients in a large saucepan. Heat on medium-high heat on a low simmer for 15 minutes and up to 3 hours, making sure not to boil the contents. Remove from heat and strain. Serve warm topped with desired ingredients.

Ingredients

  • Crushed ice
  • 2 ounces honey bourbon (like Jim Beam)
  • Juice of 1/2 lime (approximately 1 tablespoon)
  • Ginger beer (approximately 1/2 can)
  • 1 tablespoon cranberry syrup
  • For the cranberry syrup:
  • 1 cup cranberries
  • 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 ounce tequila
  • For garnish:
  • 1 hollowed out lime half (save the lime when you juice it for the cocktail)
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon mezcal (approximate amount, depends on the size of your lime half)
  • Food grade citrus essential oils (optional)

Steps

  1. Make the cranberry syrup: Put the cranberries in a small saucepan and muddle well to release the juices. Add the sugar and water, and bring to a boil. Let boil for 3 minutes. Reduce to a simmer and simmer for 10 minutes.
  2. Remove from the heat and stir in the tequila. Leave to cool then strain twice, and store in the fridge until ready to use.
  3. Prepare cocktail and garnish: Fill a rocks glass with crushed ice.
  4. Pour over the honey bourbon and lime juice. Fill almost to the top with ginger beer.
  5. Drizzle the cranberry syrup over the top (you may need to shake the container of syrup to loosen it for pouring).
  6. Put brown sugar in your lime half, and use the back of a spoon to spread the sugar all around the inside. Gently place the lime half on top of the drink, hollowed out side facing up.
  7. Fill the lime half with mezcal. If using, put a couple of drops of the food grade citrus essential oils over the top of the mezcal, and spread a drop or two around the rim of the lime half.
  8. Use a stick lighter to light the garnish. Let it burn for 10 seconds, then use a spoon to dunk the lime half into the drink to put out the flame and get the mezcal into the drink.
  9. Essential oils will help get you the big, impressive flame that burns. However, if you don't want to use essential oils just use a cook’s blow torch to burn the mezcal and lime — you'll get the same smokey taste and aroma, it just won't burn as high or as long.
  10. Safety first - keep a large bowl of water nearby just in case of any mishaps. Do not make this garnish if you’ve already consumed alcohol.
  11. Disclaimer: Wear gloves when handling essential oils. If applied directly to the skin and then exposed to heat, they can on occasion cause chemical burns.

Ingredients

  • 1 to 2 tablespoons kosher salt
  • Blue food coloring
  • 1/4 lemon
  • Crushed ice
  • 1 1/2 ounces vodka
  • 1 ounce blue curacao
  • Clear lemonade
  • For the dragon glass candy:
  • Blue jolly ranchers, melted

Steps

  1. Make the dragon glass candy: Melt blue jolly ranchers in the microwave at 80% power for 1 minute. Microwave power varies, so be careful and adjust as needed for your microwave. If not fully melted, continue cooking in 15 second increments. When finished, pour onto a silicone baking mat and allow to set; Once hard, break into shards of varying sizes and set aside.
  2. Prepare the cocktail: Put a glass in the freezer for about 5 minutes. Put the salt on a plate, then add 1 to 2 drops of food coloring and smear it on the salt. Mix it through until the salt turns blue, then spread it out on the plate.
  3. Remove the class from the freezer, rub the lemon wedge around the rim of the glass, then dip the wet rim into the blue salt.
  4. Fill one-fourth of the glass with crushed ice, then add vodka, blue curacao and the juice of the lemon wedge. Slowly mix it everything together with a spoon.
  5. Top the cocktail with lemonade, then finish it off with a little more crushed ice if you wish.
  6. Finally, break off long shards of the candy, and stick them in the cocktail. Enjoy!
