Made with thick-cut toast, molasses and spices, gingerbread French toast just might be the perfect festive breakfast.

Gingerbread French Toast

Ingredients

  • 1 Loaf of unsliced Texas Toast, Brioche or Italian Bread

  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar

  • 1/4 cup Molasses

  • 1/2 tsp Ground Cinnamon

  • 1/2 tsp Ground Ginger

  • 1/2 tsp Ground Nutmeg

  • 1/4 tsp Ground Cloves

  • 3 Eggs

  • 1/2 cup Milk

  • 4 tbsp Butter

  • Optional Whipped Cream & Maple Syrup

Instructions

  1. Add the sugar, molasses, spices, eggs and milk in a blender and mix until smooth. Pre-heat a non-stick pan over medium and melt in the butter.

  2. Slice the bread into 1 inch thick pieces and soak each piece, one at a time for 15 seconds each side. Place the bread on the pan and cook each side until golden and firm. Roughly 3 minutes each side.

  3. Repeat process with remaining slices of bread and top with whipped cream, maple syrup and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

- Today, I wanna share with you the perfect festive breakfast. We're making gingerbread French toast. I'm really excited about this recipe. Let's dive straight in. So the first thing I wanna do is make the dipping portion. This is basically all the flavors of gingerbread. We're gonna infuse it into the milk and eggs that you usually dip your French toast in. So I'm using a pitcher because I want the spices to all blend in. You could also build it in a blender and then whiz it that way. So in here, I'm gonna go in with my molasses. It's about three tablespoons, a quarter of a cup. I really just eyeballed all of these measurements. I've got a quarter cup of brown sugar then I've got my spices. So we're talking cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and cloves. I'm not gonna do all of these. I'm gonna do probably half a teaspoon of each and maybe just a little bit less cloves 'cause it is pretty strong. Alright and then we go in with our eggs. Let's start off with three eggs. Like I said, I really just eyeballed this whole thing and it's kind of to taste as well. I don't mean taste the mixture. I mean make it and go, ooh, well, maybe more eggs next time. I think three is gonna be perfect. Cool and then we'll add the milk. Awesome, at this stage, you wanna get it blitzed up. If you're using a blender, whiz it up. I'm using an immersion blender to put this all together. Alright, so the milk mixture is made and now I wanna get my bread sliced up. I got everything ready here to make some amazing French toast. So I've got just regular white bread and the reason I have it not sliced is that I want really thick slices. So we're just gonna cut up nice thick ones. Perfect, now I've got a shallow bowl here. I'm going to pour my milk gingerbread mixture in. It smells so good, you guys, and then I have got my pan. I'm gonna get it on a low, medium low heat just for now and I'm gonna put a little pat of butter in. Alright, so it's just like making regular French toast. Grab yourself a slice. I'm gonna dip it in for about 15 seconds each side and then get it on your pan and I'm gonna have that cook for about three minutes each side. I want it nice and golden and I also want it to firm up a little bit so it's not super soggy and then we're gonna get it topped with a little bit of whipped cream and cinnamon.
