- Grilled cheese is one of the most basic of basic recipes, but you'd be surprised how many people don't know how to make the perfect one. I know that's subjective to say, but stick with me and I'm a share my top three tips. Tips number one, grate your cheese. Compared to slicing up a block or using prepackaged slices using grated cheese allows you to easily spread it across your bread and it melts a lot more evenly. Tip number two, butter your bread not your pan. If you spread some softened butter across your bread slices you will get a beautiful, evenly, golden crust, versus tossing your butter straight into the pan. It's just gonna swirl around. You're gonna have to move around your bread. Just save yourself some time and butter your slices. You can also use some olive oil with a brush and apply that straight on the bread as well. And tip number three, press your cheese. If you don't have a press like this at home, you could also use a brick, just cover it up in foil, or use another heavy pan. This helps the sandwich cook a lot faster and more evenly. Now that you're in the know, let's make make some grilled cheese please! First, I'm gonna butter my slices. You can use any bread of your choice. I've got some beautiful rye here. I've got my pan heating up here that's on medium low. Gonna put the butter side down and add that grated cheese. Mostly in the center because it's gonna ooze out to the edges. Place the other side on top, butter side up and press it down. Let's take a peek. Oh, yes, look at how the cheese formed a nice little lacy crust on the outside. I'm gonna flip it over. Oh . Look at that crust! Remember to give it a press and let the other side get browned. This is ready. Oh yeah! Oo, listen to that . You hear that? That's crunch right there. I'm gonna go in. You want the Instagram worthy cheese pull? Immediately after you cut it, push the bread slices back together so that the cheese can come and melt back together and then you can pull it apart. Oh yeah. And that my friends, is the perfect classic grilled cheese. Once you've mastered all those tips, the options are endless. You can add different vegetables, fruits, different cheese, bread, the works. My favorite kind is with Swiss and honey. So again, grab some softened butter, would you like me to butter your muffin? No, this, that doesn't work here. This is not a muffin. But I'd like to butter your toast. Butter side down. We got some grated Swiss cheese this time. Blood orange honey cream. You can use any honey of your choice. Just drizzle it right on top. Stack the other bread, butter side up. Press it down. This one has a little surprise. You just wait. This is ready for a flip. Gonna brown the other side first. Once that side browns, I'm gonna add a little more cheese, but on the outside. A few years ago my good friend Mike, who raps about everything, made up this rap. Cheese on the inside, cheese on the outside. Grilled cheese a win when you got the cheese on both sides. Thanks Mike. So just lift the grilled cheese up. Sprinkle a little bit more right there, and then quickly place it right back on top. Let it crisp up just a bit. I think it's ready. I'm just gonna go around the edges to loosen it up. And once you have a full release, add some more cheese, give it a flip, press it down. Boom. There goes that crust again. Cut it in half. Oo! Remember, push them together to get that Instagram pull. Yes! And there you have it, the perfect grilled cheese. I hope you guys give these tips a try. I'll see you next time. Remember to just eat life. Oh yeah.
