Hasselback Apple Tart

We take all that apple pie flavor you love and squeeze it into a tart.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 apple, Honeycrisp or any other firm apple
  • Frozen pie dough
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 tablespoon rolled oats
  • 2 tablespoons crushed pecans
  • Salt
  • Vanilla ice cream

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a small saucepan. Add 1 tablespoon of brown sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. Set aside.
  3. Peel, halve and core the apple. Cut slices into the apple; stop before cutting through the bottom. Set aside.
  4. Prepare two rounds of pie crust. Place the sliced apple halves in the center. Crimp up the edges of the pie crust. Brush the apple with the butter mix.
  5. Bake for 20 minutes.
  6. While the apples are baking, prepare the streusel topping. Cut the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter into cubes, combine with 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, flour, oats, pecans and a pinch of salt.
  7. Remove apples from oven. Spread the streusel over the top of the apples.
  8. Return the apples to the oven and bake for another 10 minutes.
  9. Remove and cool for 5 minutes before serving with a scoop of ice cream.
