Honey Sausage Breakfast Buns

Sweet yet savory breakfast buns will be the highlight of your morning.


  • For the honey glaze:
  • 1/4 cup butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon mustard powder
  • For the buns:
  • 1-2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage, casings removed
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 roll of pizza dough (about a pound)
  • 1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese
  • Chopped scallions for garnish


  1. Preheat oven to 375°F and grease a baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, beat butter, brown sugar, honey and mustard powder together. Set aside.
  3. Heat a large skillet, drizzle with a touch of oil, and cook breakfast sausage until brown. Season with salt and pepper. Set aside to cool slightly.
  4. Unroll pizza dough and, leaving about a 1/2-inch border, slather with 1/4 cup of the glaze, sprinkle with 1/2 cup of cheese, add sausage and another 1/2 cup of cheese. Roll from one long side to the other.
  5. Chill for 5-10 minutes in the freezer before cutting, seam side down, into 1-2 inch pieces. Pour remaining glaze on the bottom of prepared pan and pop 'buns'onto the glaze, cut side down.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes, then remove foil and bake for another 20-30 minutes. Sprinkle with more cheese if desired.
  7. Cool slightly before flipping over onto a plate.
