Hot Chocolate Ornament Truffles 3 Ways

Give your hot chocolate some extra holiday cheer with truffle ornaments in flavors like salted caramel, peppermint and eggnog spice.

  • 8 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 3 cups heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salted caramel sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon flaky sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint schnapps
  • 1 teaspoon eggnog
  • 1 teaspoon rum
  • Pinch freshly grated nutmeg
  • 2 cups candy cane candy melts
  • 2 cups green candy melts
  • 2 cups white candy melts
  • Yellow candy melts, for garnish
  • Holiday sprinkles, for garnish
  • Candy necklace
  • Luster dust
  • Whipped cream, for garnish

  1. Heat heavy cream until just boiling. Pour over chocolate chips in a large heatproof bowl and allow to sit until chocolate has melted. Mix with a silicone spatula until ganache is smooth. Pour the mixture, by thirds, into 3 small heatproof bowls.
  2. In the first bowl, add the caramel sauce and sea salt. In the second bowl, add the peppermint extract and schnapps. In the third bowl, add the eggnog, rum and nutmeg. Refrigerate the truffle mixtures until set, then portion into 2-inch balls and refrigerate until firm.
  3. Melt candy melts. Dip each truffle flavor into the color of your choice and refrigerate until firm. Decorate ornaments by piping decorations in contrasting holiday colors and patterns. Top with candy ornament hangers and set aside. To serve, heat a cup of milk and stir a truffle in. Top with whipped cream and enjoy!
