Traditional Empanadas

  • 500g all-purpose flour
  • 60g butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 onions
  • 300g mozzarella cheese
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tbsp sugar

Fried Empanadas

  • 500g all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup vegetable fat
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Olive oil
  • 1 onion
  • 1 red pepper
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • 500g ground beef
  • 1 tbsp pepper
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • Salt
  • 1 cup meat broth
  • 1 boiled egg

Whole Wheat Empanadas

  • 400g whole wheat flour
  • 130g coconut oil
  • 1 cup seed mix
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 stewed pumpkin
  • 1 tbsp curry
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • 200g mozzarella cheese

Steps

Traditional Empanadas

  1. Place the flour in a bowl. In the center, place the butter and the egg.
  2. Add the salt and warm water until you get a dough.
  3. Allow it to rest for 10 minutes in the refrigerator.
  4. Roll out the dough and cut out rings with a round cutter.
  5. For the filling, place the onion in a pot with the olive oil and chopped garlic.
  6. Add the sugar and cook the onions until they caramelize.
  7. Build the empanadas by placing a bit of onion and cheese on each dough ring and closing them.

Whole Wheat Empanadas

  1. Bake at 180 °C for 20 minutes.
