Ingredients
Traditional Empanadas
- 500g all-purpose flour
- 60g butter
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 egg
- 1 cup water
- 2 onions
- 300g mozzarella cheese
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 1 tbsp sugar
Fried Empanadas
- 500g all-purpose flour
- 1 cup vegetable fat
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp salt
- Olive oil
- 1 onion
- 1 red pepper
- Salt
- Black pepper
- 500g ground beef
- 1 tbsp pepper
- 1 tbsp cumin
- Salt
- 1 cup meat broth
- 1 boiled egg
Whole Wheat Empanadas
- 400g whole wheat flour
- 130g coconut oil
- 1 cup seed mix
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 stewed pumpkin
- 1 tbsp curry
- Salt
- Black pepper
- 200g mozzarella cheese
Steps
Traditional Empanadas
- Place the flour in a bowl. In the center, place the butter and the egg.
- Add the salt and warm water until you get a dough.
- Allow it to rest for 10 minutes in the refrigerator.
- Roll out the dough and cut out rings with a round cutter.
- For the filling, place the onion in a pot with the olive oil and chopped garlic.
- Add the sugar and cook the onions until they caramelize.
- Build the empanadas by placing a bit of onion and cheese on each dough ring and closing them.
Whole Wheat Empanadas
- Bake at 180 °C for 20 minutes.
