Indian Spiced Rice Pudding With Black Sesame Seeds

This naturally sweet and dairy-free treat is the perfect sweet treat for either breakfast or dessert.


  • 2 cups coconut milk (full fat)
  • 2 cups almond milk
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup basmati rice
  • 1 star anise
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup dried cherries
  • Optional: cinnamon for serving


  1. Place coconut milk, almond milk, honey and maple syrup in a pot and bring to a boil. Add in rice, spices and cherries, and lower to a simmer. Cook uncovered until liquid has absorbed and rice is a creamy consistency, about 20 minutes.
  2. Remove cinnamon sticks and star anise. Place in bowls and top with cinnamon. Serve warm.
