Japanese-Style Stuffed Bell Peppers

Filled with gooey cheese and salty meat, these panko-breaded peppers are easy enough to whip up any night of the week.


  • 4 bell peppers
  • Filling:
  • 150 grams tofu, drained well
  • 200 grams ground pork
  • 1/3 onion, minced
  • 20 grams panko bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Batter:
  • 150 grams flour
  • 150 grams water
  • Other ingredients:
  • 40 grams shredded cheese
  • Panko bread crumbs
  • Flour
  • Vegetable oil
  • Japanese Worcestershire-style sauce


  1. Combine flour and water to make a batter and set aside.
  2. Cut off the top of the bell peppers and scoop out the seeds with a spoon. Dust the insides with flour.
  3. Combine all ingredients for the filling and mix well.
  4. Fill the bell peppers with the filling halfway up. Fill up with cheese and top it off with more filling. Secure by placing the top of the bell pepper back on and dust all over with flour.
  5. Place the stuffed pepeprs into the batter. Then coat with panko bread crumbs.
  6. Deep-fry in hot oil for 5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Serve with Japanese Worcestershire-style sauce.
