Leftover Fried Rice Balls with Sesame

Ingredients

Leftover Fried Rice Balls

  • 1 cup leftover fried rice
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons rice flour
  • 1/2 cup leftover orange chicken
  • For the dredge:
  • 1 cup rice flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup raw sesame seeds
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Sauce

  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • Green onion
  • Black sesame seeds

Steps

Leftover Fried Rice Balls

  1. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, heat a few inches of oil to 375 degrees.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine all ingredients for the rice balls except for the orange chicken. Form a small ball with some of the rice and place a piece of chicken inside.
  3. Place rice flour, eggs and sesame seeds in 3 separate shallow plates. Roll rice ball in flour, then eggs, followed by the raw sesame seeds. Carefully drop rice balls into preheated oil, and fry for 3 to 5 minutes. Allow balls to cool slightly on a paper towel-lined plate.

Sauce

  1. In a small bowl, mix together all sauce ingredients. Serve rice balls with dipping sauce. Garnish with green onions and black sesame seeds.
