Marbled Mousse

This marbelous mousse tastes even better than it looks!

Ingredients

  • Chocolate mousse:
  • 10 ounces bittersweet chocolate
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream, room temperature
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream, cold
  • 3 egg whites
  • White chocolate mousse:
  • 10 ounces white chocolate
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 tablespoons heavy cream, room temperature

Steps

  1. For the chocolate mousse: Melt chocolate over a double boiler. In a mixing bowl, add egg yolks and sugar and beat until combined. Add 1/4 cup heavy cream and continue to beat. Add the melted chocolate and beat until combined.
  2. In a separate bowl, add the cold heavy cream and beat until soft peaks form. In another bowl, beat egg whites until fluffy. Mix half the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture, then fold in half of the egg whites. Reserve remaining whipped cream and egg whites for the white chocolate mousse.
  3. For the white chocolate mousse: Melt the white chocolate over a double boiler. In a mixing bowl, add egg yolks and sugar and beat until combined. Add heavy cream and beat again. Add the melted white chocolate and beat until combined. Mix in remaining whipped cream, then fold in the remaining egg whites.
  4. Place a wooden spoon under a large serving bowl to tilt the dish. Add chocolate mousse on one side of the dish and white chocolate mousse on the other side. Use the spoon to swirl both mousses together.
  5. Refrigerate 3 hours before serving.
