Marinated Ham

Flavorful, herby ham is so versatile — use it in sandwiches or as the main dish!

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup white wine
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 onion
  • 1 carrot
  • 2 sprigs of thyme
  • 1 sprig of rosemary
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon of salt, more to taste
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 ham
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter

  1. In a blender, add sugar, wine, water, onion, carrot, thyme, rosemary, bay leaf, salt and pepper. Blend until the mixture is smooth.
  2. Pour onto the ham and let marinate in the refrigerator, covered with plastic, for at least 10 hours, turning the ham halfway through.
  3. When it is ready to bake, leave the skin side facing up and remove any excess marinade. Slather the skin with butter.
  4. Cover the baking pan tightly with foil that's been buttered.
  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 2 hours. (Do not let the baking pan dry out. Add water if needed.)
  6. Remove foil, then bake for another 30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  7. Strain the sauce from the baking sheet and serve with the ham.
