8 Mason Jar Hacks

From personal pie crusts to perfect fried eggs to peeling garlic and more, what can't mason jars do?

Ingredients

  • Muffin batter

Steps

  1. On a sheet tray, use lids and disks to hold muffin liners in place. Fill with desired muffin batter and bake as usual. (Lids take up less kitchen space than clunky muffin tins!) Enjoy.

Ingredients

  • 1 egg

Steps

  1. Generously spray a Mason jar lid (ring only) with cooking spray. Place on a skillet over medium heat. Crack an egg into the lid and watch as you create the perfect fried circular egg. Make your own Egg McMuffin at home!

Ingredients

  • 2% milk, as needed

Steps

  1. Fill a Mason jar about halfway with 2% milk. Cover with the lid. Shake vigorously for 20 to 30 seconds. Remove lid and microwave for 30 seconds. Milk will double in volume. Pour milk into cappuccino and spoon on extra froth. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 head of garlic

Steps

  1. Place 1 whole head of garlic in a Mason jar and secure with lid. Shake until all garlic cloves are released from their skins. Magic!

Ingredients

  • Pie dough (homemade or store bought)
  • Cooking spray
  • Pie filling of choice

Steps

  1. This pie bakes in the lid of your Mason jar only. On your countertop, create a lattice design using strips of pie dough.
  2. Using the rim of the Mason jar lid, cut a circle out of the lattice. Spray the lid and removable disk with cooking spray.
  3. Place extra dough inside lid combo to create the pie shell. Fill with desired pie filling and cover with lattice circle. Bake and serve.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream

Steps

  1. Pour heavy whipping cream into the Mason jar. Shake until stiff peaks form and your cream is whipped. Keep shaking and you will have butter. (The solids will start to separate from the liquid and voila!)
  2. Spread on toast with a little coarse salt and enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan, finely grated
  • Crusty bread for dipping
  • Chives, for garnish

Steps

  1. Lightly coat Mason jars with cooking spray. Pour 1 tablespoon heavy cream into each jar. Sprinkle with half the cheese.
  2. Carefully pour egg in and cover with remaining cheese and heavy cream. Secure Mason jar with lid.
  3. Place jar in a stock pot. Fill up pot with enough water to cover the eggs. Bring water to a simmer over medium-low heat and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until whites are set. Carefully remove lids and serve with toasted and buttered bread. Garnish with chives.
