Mock Fried Oysters

Made with marinated tofu, these deep-fried "oysters" are perfect for vegetarians.


  • 1 block firm tofu
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons cream cheese
  • 2 tablespoons laver in soy sauce
  • 1 sheet nori
  • 1 tablespoon potato starch
  • Panko breadcrumbs
  • Oil for deep-frying
  • Tartar sauce


  1. Drain excess water out of tofu.
  2. Shred nori sheet into 2 centimeters pieces.
  3. In a bowl, combine drained tofu, egg, cream cheese, laver in soy sauce and potato starch and mix to combined.
  4. Take a small amount of mixture into hands and shape into the size of an oyster. Coat with panko and deep-fry until crispy and golden brown.
  5. Serve with tartar sauce.
