Pink Layer Cake With Sprinkles

A secret layer of strawberries and cream transforms plain cake into party cake.


  • 1 cup milk
  • 6 egg whites
  • 2/3 cup butter
  • 1 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pink food coloring
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 7 ounces strawberries
  • 7 ounces cream
  • 1 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • 3 tablespoons colorless flavorless gelatin (bloomed according to packaging instructions)
  • 1 3/4 cup whipped cream
  • Colored sprinkles


  1. Beat in a mixer: the milk, the egg whites, the butter and the sugar.
  2. Pour into a bowl and add the flour.
  3. Add the vanilla extract, the food coloring and then, add the baking powder. Mix delicately.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F, grease and flour a cake pan.
  5. Bake the cake for 40 minutes. Remove from the oven and leave it to cool.
  6. In a mixer, beat the strawberries, the cream and the sweetened condensed milk.
  7. Add the gelatin to this mixture and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  8. Cut the cake in half, wrap its base with a an acetate sheet, pour the mousse in, cover with the other half of the cake and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  9. Cover with the whipped cream and decorate with the sprinkles.
