Pork Belly Char Siu

Satisfy your meaty cravings with ridiculously tender pork rolls glazed with a soy-ginger sauce.

Ingredients

  • 18 thinly-sliced pork belly
  • Potato starch
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Sauce:
  • 50 milliliters soy sauce
  • 50 milliliters mirin
  • 50 milliliters sake
  • 50 milliliters water
  • Green onion
  • 1 stub ginger
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Welsh onion, thinly sliced
  • Pink peppercorns

Steps

  1. Season pork slices with salt and pepper and sprinkle on potato starch and coat well.
  2. Stack three pork slices together and roll up tightly.
  3. Heat some oil in a frying pan and cook the pork rolls on all sides, starting with the seam side facing down.
  4. Once meat is nicely browned on all sides, wipe of excess oil from the pan.
  5. Add in all ingredients for the sauce and simmer for 15 minutes. Turn off the heat and let it sit until cool enough to touch.
  6. Slice and serve with sliced welsh onion and pink peppercorns if desired.
